What I'm For: A Follow-up From Ron Kitchens' Challenge
If you haven't stumbled upon Ron Kitchens' leadership blog or podcast, do yourself a favor and go to ronkitchens.com. In his recent blog, he challenged readers to post things they're for, and not against. Writing what you're for is a much more "half full" approach than writing what you're against, even if they end up being reciprocals of each other.
Here are mine. I am for...:
- making my wife laugh
- throwing the ball with my dog until her tongue hangs sideways out of her mouth
- coffee, all day and into the night
- craft beer over domestics
- grip and rip, and avoiding the smart play
- local restaurants
- lifelong learning
- constantly bettering yourself
- competition
- the type of marriage that works for both spouses
- silent car rides every now and again
- the one shot in golf that no one in your group can pull off, paired with the handful of other shots that are garbage
- using my privilege to speak for those who have none
- disobeying authority when they lack logic
- that point where science ends and religion begins
- traveling
- being worldly while living in a small town setting
- knowing stupid facts
- an expensive cigar
- whiskey that is too pricey paired with a steak I can't afford at this time in my life
- breaking up the fight at the bar
- brutal honesty
- proof over conjecture
- logic over emotion
- numbers that painting the picture
- the Foo Fighters, Eminem, and Neil Young
- giving to those less fortunate
- the power of education
- knowing someone in every room
- intellectual conversation that challenges me to the core
- making the inappropriate joke
- overpaying for quality
- surrounding myself with leaders
- being so busy that it borders on insanity
- keeping a calendar so accurate that it borders on obsession
- having no email in your inbox
- always calling or texting back
- honor and trust
- that hole-in-the-wall spot that only carries one thing you need
- Grand Valley State University
- making sure I'm not a stereotype
- being sneaky athletic
- leaving a legacy
Thanks @ronkitchens for challenging me, and I hope that you all take the challenge on your Facebook accounts or blogs!
